Halloween Episode

Hey!

As the title says, we will call the next update the halloween episode. Some new features included:

New splash screen.



New start menu background:



And a gameplay screenie with some new stuff on it ;) However I'll let you guys guess what's new here! *BWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAA!!!*

  7. Love these weekly updates.

    Love the menu background, but not so much the button arrangement. Why the 4x2 displacement? Balance I say, or just one "Game Center" button.

    From the image, I gather you've implemented collisional objects (rocks) into the Dark Forest map, a new chainsaw weapon, and a new character. Looks to be Beast Mode, but how can that be possible with the 'beast' carrying the chainsaw?

  8. I agree with the third comment from the top—The sound of the Fur-Bombs is too loud in comparison to the other sound effects, and can get rather annoying sometimes. It would be nice if the volume was lowered a little bit for the Fur-Bomb sound effect.

    Excited for the next update! Thanks for keeping us all posted on what's going on over there.

  12. Another episode 3.9.3.1.5.3.1 only 3 more years to go and we might have multiplayer. I used to defend you guys since you were a small team and had big goals. However it's been over a year since you said you would offer multiplayer. And we all know it doesn't take that long. This game could have been the most popular dual stick shooter. But instead it promised to much and delievered slower than a snail. Pretty sure I could have learned coding in the time it took for you guys to think about releasing multiplayer. And it's not even in sight. You still don't know when it's going to come.

    They stated in their last post that Open Feint would certainly be removed and no longer used. And good riddance I say. I know it's not exactly wondrous for you folks who used it, but it's nice to see just one, Apple-supported gaming center.

    Yes, OpenFeint does have more features, but you also have to remember: Game Center is in its early days. As I'm sure time progresses, we'll see a cornucopia of new features, not only matching what OpenFeint has to offer, but more. It already offers some pretty amazing matchmaking.

    Really, in the end if Gamecenter is the definitive leaderboard system moving forward and it helps MS develop an online multiplayer system, I have no squabbles. I'm just an OpenFeint fanboy. :)

    @Metal bear I always found openfeint much slower then game center, and the game center will allow leaderboards, friends, and achievements. Not many cons, and the faster load and promise of more is why people would choose it. Still, openfeint was great before we had an alternative

    Thanks for the posting & the new screenshots; they all look great!

    I just love Gangster Gore in the white tux, albeit I don't understand the piano theme.

    I have a couple of questions for you (unsurprisingly ;-))

    1- Did you get the chance to view with Kimmo the lost progress issue in Minigore HD? I definitely don't wanna start all over again, specially that I had already unlocked all characters. Do you get the same thing if you reinstall it on your ipad?

    2- Will the Halloween episode come out in the HD version at the same time as the original Minigore?

    3- I have an idea for a new enemy in Minigore (act surprised!)
    It's a creature that's kinda like a porcupine that would throw spikes at Gore, it would be slow, but the spikes go far.

    I already have sketches of this mysterious creature, and I can even work on a final demo if you think that it stands a chance to be a potential enemy, if not, I'll kill it myself. I don't wanna start a Metalbear drama (no offence Metalbear) if you don't like the idea.

  59. From the way I see it, you guys are just adding more and more into episode 4 and it will never get finished! I'm not saying it's a bad thing, but maybe you could hold onto these new things for a little while to release it sooner? Oh, and if Teo Gore is going to be a Beta tester then i think it's a little unfair because I was the one who spotted that bug and then Teo just added screen-shots for me! Again, it's not a bad thing that you did that Teo and I'm happy that you did it for me, but you yourself said that you hadn't noticed that bug until I pointed it out!

    Yes, the idea is to create an enemy that doesn't run towards you, but does the damage by sending it's spikes at you. Gore has to dodge or run away. I'll post some screenshots if Timmo is interested in the idea.

  81. Loving the look of the new and improved HUD on the in game screen, and the rocks aswell that i believe a lot of hard work went into.

    i've been thinking of what could be added to the gameplay of minigore that could create a better experience for the player. sure you can add new weapons, characters, maps etc. but im thinking the more finer details like being able to change weapon once you pick up say, a shotgun. it would be awesome if just above one of the control sticks, there was a button that would allow you to change weapon. for example, the machine gun is generally better for use agains the predator furries because of its high rate of fire, but when you pick up a grenade launcher, the rate of fire can be not right for hitting the furries. so with a simple touch of a button (or maybe even a shake of the iDevice or whatever) you changed back to the machine gun (or whatever the base weapon for the character) and then when the time is right you can change back to the picked up weapon. i think this would just give a bit more of a tactical aspect to the game, having to decide when to use a certain weapon. anyway thats my essay. let me know what you think all.

    I agree too. I like the way how you get to pick up weapons during the game, but different weapons are effective for different furries. So if we could change weapons with like a button over the control stick like you said then we could kill more furries quicker :)
    Oh and also, MS, I need to know if you guys are taking interest in this blog's 'Create-a-Gore' idea. I really think it would make this game alot more playable. Minigore is still on the bottom shelf on my iPod, which is where I keep my 4 most favourite apps!

  83. @Thilium. I agree. There are certain instances in the game where the minigun is better than the grenade launcher/shotgun. eg at night when you have predator furrys/furry bombs after you. Grenade launcher isnt good against the furry bombs as you do damage to yourself and shotgun is too slow to take out the predator furrys.

    Also I was wondering if you (MS) would be able to partner up with the creators of Pocket God to allow us to play as a pygmy? I don't expect this to be in any upcoming episodes but I thought I'd share my idea.

    As for an ingame minigame I was wondering if you could do one where you (as the character) would be chased by aload of furries whilst being in the back of a pickup truck and the idea is to shoot the charging furries before they manage to get on the truck and if they do you loose a life.

    Please let me know what you think.

  87. I'm confused here.

    You folks at Mountain Sheep not too long ago reported having formed a proper office, specifically for developing games. If this is so, I assume that you're focusing primarily on Minigore. Cool.

    So then I must delve a little deeper and ask, why is it taking so long for individual updates? With all the posts you make, it sounds like you're hopping from one concept to the next, never really focusing on just one to push it out as an update. I could obviously be wrong, but this is what one would presume.

    Another subject. We are your fans, and we have waited profusely for episode 4, and for whatever else you promised (Hardgore ring-a-bell)? How many of us have pleaded for some kind of inkling as to when Episode 4 will arrive? We're the people who bought the game from the get-go, both DLC character packages, and continue to support you with our undying love (hyperbole).

    All I ask for is a response. Can't you explain why Episode 4 isn't out?

  88. @Machination: you forgot about Unmarked, and I think that they have already explained why it's not out, or at least suggested it. I think that when they started, they probably didn't have any experience with programming multiplayer games, which is why they had to hire several people to do it for them. But if I'm wrong, please correct me.

  89. @Teo Gore: I was thinking there are two ways for the minigame. 1st way is multiplayer where one player drives the truck avoiding obstacles and furries whilst the other shoots on a similar map to what there is at the moment only larger and the 2nd way is similar to the original battlebears where the camera is behind the character and you shoot at the oncoming furries.

    Which do you prefer? Or do you have an idea of your own.

    I think that a new furry would be really cool, but when you say "a furry made of both fire and ice" what are your ideas of functioning in terms of gameplay. if you look back through the updates to the enemies in minigore (-wolfworm) the enemies being released have just become progressivly harder and more complex, and as a result the game has become quite cluttered. for example, when you enter into inferno mode, you have your furries, fire furries, medium and large furries, predator furries and fur-bombs, all coming at you at once, and with the nature of the game, constantly running and shotting frantically trying not to die. because it is so intense you just shoot at anything with no strategic purpose because the player has no choice. i think a way of this chaging would be to alter the ratios of each type of furry, and maybe have, as you progress through the game, different ratios of enemies. for example you jump into inferno mode, you face a massive wave of standard fire furries with there bigger counterparts, maybe the occassional fur-bomb or predator furry. night falls with the wolfworm (maybe one day a new boss??) then when day comes again it becomes a wave of fire furries with an increased ratio of fur-bombs but less predators etc etc. i guess i feel the game is very unbalenced in that sense. so back to my point, maybe if a fire/ice furry was to be created the MS team could look into creating an enemy that could allow for:
    1. something new and interesting to the gameplay
    2. something that creates a more balenced gameplay experience.

  108. new or old characters with mission type levels would be cool. each character does something different with a unique level design for each character. thats later updates. 4 4.0 u should consider a ghost enemy that appears as it gets to a certain distance 2wards u

    They have not mentioned the character, outside of the concept art and the fact that they'll make it eventually. A UDID is a Universal Identifier, which you need to provide to a developer to allow them to create a special file for you. That file gives you access to the beta.

    Thanks fir the response! I was actually thinking in terms of a playable character made of fire and ice actually. A golem character from Mt. Hardland perhaps? I would have to think how he would appriately affect gameplay.

  111. reading the suggestion further up the page about the truck escape from furries, it sounds like that sort of thing would work awesomely in a story mode type thing. I would imagine that once Mountain Sheep has finished putting out all the levels that they want for minigore (Forest, snow, dessert, swamp, mountain, lake look like obvious additions looking at the hardland map), we'll begin to see the formation of a story that involves moving from level to level. geez i cannot wait for that day :).

    Random question for Jussi, i imagine that you've probably been playing minigore quite a bit since you began working for MS, so whats you high score? (any character)

    I really like the idea of the fire/ice furry but maybe they should just be different furries altogether. The ice furry might be really fast and could jump at you like the predator furries but when it touches you, instead of you losing a life, you would slow down. It might be really fun or not lol. Just an idea.

    Hmmm.... I was thinking of some freaky combination of a whole bunch of other characters too the other day. Such as a walking skeleton, Slime monster, pure water character, demonic fire character, and a being of pure electricity. I should make a detailed description of all those one day. As for your idea of keeping them seperate (even though I was referring to a character, not a furry): Now that I think of it, that might be best. Trails of fire and ice to change terrain? Abilities to stall weaponry and freeze you in place? MUHAHAHA.......

  114. Maybe minigore should make it that when night comes you have the ability to put mines when there are no furries around except the wolfworms. It could add a new concept to the game and it might put some strategic thinking. But that might not work seeing as the number of furries everywhere.

  127. I have a flood of ideas i want to get off my chest...i know alot of people will say that "it's a stupid idea or hey stop telling them your ideas"
    or that im not a fan.truth is im a HUGE fan it's the only game i have on my iPhone seriously!...anyways

    I have an idea that i wanna swing your way:Minigore is famous for having requested characters on the roster right? well i was thinking if you would consider asking skyvu to make a "Oliver" character from battle bears as a EXCLUSIVE character that people would buy...but why?Because when they buy the character they would get a FREE EXCLUSIVE map that the enemy's wouldn't be furries or zombies but HUGGABLES!!! it'd be amazing and you can give Oliver some catchphrases from the game and the stage could be on the ship from the actual game itself plus each of the characters could have a catchphrase for that map

    John gore:"What the- they're pink?!"
    Jerry gore:"HAHA!I was right there is teddy bears!"
    Oliver:"OK!you want some!?" "take that HUGGABLES!"

    I'd like to see it possible to talk to your partner :D and put in new weapons including melee weapons:'KATANA,BAT,A MACKERAL,AND POSSIBLY THE DREADED CHAINSAW!!!!!" as for firearms i wish to see:"FLAMETHROWER,LASER GUN,ROCKET LAUNCHER!" as for the modes id like to see "defend the post" where you and your teamates protect a shelter from furries and zombies :D and id like to see a "TEAM DEATHMATCH" where 2 up to 4 players duke it out and maybe "Capture the Flag" where the players see who can collect the most flags before being killed and probably new places to play like a city,a town,Farms and it'd be WICKED COOL if you added...VEHICLES!!!!!!!! that way you and you partner can help each other out while one shoots and the other one drives, and i'd like to see a storymode plus new characters like"the good solider from Trenches"AND '"Rasta monkey" and finally i'd like to see New Bosses and a feature where you can create your own gores and new achievements

    As for story mode i was wondering if it could be in the form of a book where in each update that there can be a new chapter added leading up to the fight with the puppet master!!! :D

  134. For the anon who had all the ideas.... Think what about what you're saying... I mean, the battle bear thing is a good idea, but vehicles? If there were to be a team death match there would kinda be up to 6 people to make it fun... But since mountain sheep is probably only doing bluetooth co-op.... Well they still can use gamecenter... The story thing will have to wait until after ep4 comes out... Also, this is what im thinking, about the beast mode with the chainsaw, you can probably now shoot when you're in beast mode.

I can't say anything about when it is going to be released aside from what Mountain Sheep has already said. Just sit tight, the new update is pretty awesome.

    I believe they've dropped the episode naming system, but as it's looking right now, I suppose you could classify it as 3.9. No multiplayer in this update I think.

    Hey!

    As far as I'm aware, Mountain Sheep does not need anymore beta testers. They just recently finished restructuring their original group. Sorry to disappoint. But the best way to keep the possibility of becoming a tester yourself in the future alive is to follow these tips. Show enthusiasm with regards to the game, be mature and have a strong opinion of the game, do not bother them over and over about wanting to be a tester, and be a good contributor to the Minigore community. That is the best way to prove to them you are deserving of being a beta tester. I applied around this time for a beta tester position LAST year, and I thought they had forgot, then I almost forgot about it myself. But that did not stop me from simply participating in the community. Good luck. :)

    yes but this isn't episode 4 its a bug fix update with a bit of content eg retina display for iPod touch 4g, new scoring system, totems etc

    the multiplayer, zombies, graveyard map and dark knight etc are in episode 4 which should be finished soon

    there are still a number of bugs that need to be fixed but this (not episode 4) update should be submitted soon
